“修”、“合”二字在古典药籍中意相近，均与“炮制”相关。
“修合无人见，存心有天知”字面意思是：在没有监管、他人不知情的情况下，在中成药炮制的过程中依然要凭良心，自觉做到药材地道、斤两足称、制作遵法。换句话说，虽他人不在��，但“上天”是知道的，讲的是不能违背良心、不能见利忘义、不能偷工减料，是对人们常说的“人在做，天在看”的有力解释。
